The U.S. Department of Labor recently awarded a $1.2 million grant to The Little Rock Workforce Development Board to develop The Rock City Reentry Project. The purpose of the grant is to provide training and support services to recently incarcerated individuals as they transition back into society. The project will be a collaborative effort between The Little Rock Workforce Development Board, and Our House, with ACEF, Medlife, and Pulaski Technical College operating as secondary partners to provide training opportunities and help with job placement.

All your life you’ve probably heard that education pays, and it does, even for those who don’t fit into the “full-time-first-time-four-year-degree-seeking-student” mold that’s typically used as the standard of educational attainment. But for some people, a white collar desk job will never be a fit, and they need an educational program that will prepare them for physical work. They need to learn detailed technical knowledge and get as much hands-on experience as they can.
ACEF’s Environmental Workforce Job Training Program
In September 2014, the Arkansas Construction Education Foundation (ACEF) held its last round of EPA training classes under the grant it was awarded back in 2012. One of the participants was Nathan Spangler. Mr. Spangler lost his job in the earlier part of 2014 and struggled to find gainful employment. Here’s a snippet from sync weekly where he was featured and talked about his story.
