All around craft professionals are created through our 2 to 4 year apprenticeship programs. All apprenticeship courses are certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, recognized by the Arkansas Department of Career Education, and accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). Each Apprentice Program utilizes the NCCER curriculum, which contains both knowledge-based exams and a “hands-on” performance evaluation. This approach provides the student the opportunity to apply everything he or she has learned in both the classroom setting and on the job.
As an apprentice, you are required to seek employment prior to enrolling in school. Prior experience is not required but you must be willing to learn. Employers will train you on the job while you attend school at ACEF one night a week. If you need assistance with finding an employer, please apply to request more information below. If you’re already working in the trade of your choice, please call the office at (501) 372-1590 to register for school. You must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED to register. We do offer trades that do not require an employer (i.e. HVAC) which means you can attend ACEF as a craft professional. You would be responsible for attending classes and paying for your school fees. After completing the program, you will receive your certification for successfully completing the program.
The Electrician is involved in the installation, commissioning, testing and maintenance of various wiring systems. Electricians render services in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
Apprentices entering the electrical trade are required to be licensed by the Arkansas Department of Labor, Board of Electrical Examiners. This is a four-year program consisting of 640 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. You will attend class one night a week at ACEF and work full time with an electrical employer. When a student completes the program, he or she will be granted a “release to test,” and can submit an application to sit for the journeyman electrician’s exam.
A Plumber installs water, disposal, waste, and gas systems. Plumbers maintain and repair the operations of these systems to ensure continuous operation of the facility.
Apprentices entering the plumbing trade are required to be licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health. This is a four-year program consisting of 640 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. You will attend class one night a week at ACEF and work full time with a plumbing company. When a student completes the program, he or she will be granted a “release to test,” and can submit an application to sit for the journeyman plumber’s exam.
The HVAC program is a 2-year competency-based program focusing on the design, implementation, and maintenance of various heating and cooling systems, including the importance of the ventilation system. You may enroll as an apprentice (employer required) or a craft professional (no employer required). After completing the program, you will receive your certification for successfully completing the program.
