Carpentry is at the heart of nearly every structure in Arkansas. From framing new homes to shaping the places where people work and gather, carpenters create the spaces communities depend on. It’s steady work with room to grow, and the pride that comes from building something lasting is hard to match.
Carpentry Apprenticeship Overview
- Hours: RTI: 432 hours
- Dates: Fall semester starts the first week of August. Spring semester starts the first week of January
- Length of course: Three – four years of classes, one night a week for four hours (5:00-9:00) (experienced credit can shorten the length of this program for non-licensed individuals)
- Location: Little Rock
- Price: Varies depending on fees and materials. Contact us for details.
The Carpentry program teaches core skills, starting with hand tools and framing, and moving into more advanced construction tasks. Students learn layout, wood framing, concrete formwork, interior and exterior finishes, windows and doors, stair systems, and safe tool use. The front-loaded structure allows students to apply skills on the job early and advance into more complex work.

Blueprint Reading, Framing, Finishing, & Site Layout
You’ll learn to read plans, measure accurately, and bring a structure to life piece by piece. We walk you through each step so you can understand not just how to build, but why it matters.
Power Tool Operation & Safety
You’ll gain confidence using everything from saws to drills while learning the right way to handle each tool. Safety becomes second nature as you practice under the guidance of experienced instructors.
Construction Math & Measurement
You’ll pick up practical math skills that help you work faster and cleaner. We keep it simple and show you how these tools make every job easier.
Understanding Building Codes & Materials
You’ll learn how buildings meet safety standards and how to choose the right materials for each part of the job. This gives your work strength, quality, and professionalism.

The Apprenticeship Pathway
Earn While You Learn
Once you understand the trade, you can take the next step into our Carpentry Apprenticeship. This path combines paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction so you can build your skills while earning an income. Apprentices join a statewide network of employers and work toward respected industry credentials that open doors to long-term careers.
