Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Overview
- Hours: RTI: 288 Hours
- Dates: Fall semester starts the first week of August. Spring semester starts the first week of January.
- Length of course: Two nights a week to complete the one-year program
- Location: Little Rock

The Diesel Mechanics program teaches inspection, repair, and maintenance of heavy-duty diesel engines and equipment. Students learn engine fundamentals, fuel and electrical systems, hydraulics, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, drivetrains, and shop safety. Graduates are prepared for entry-level technician roles.

Our Diesel Mechanics program teaches the full range of skills required in modern shops. Students work directly with engines, electrical systems, fuel and hydraulic components, and learn safety and preventative maintenance practices that employers value. Every lesson is designed to translate immediately to the workplace.

Diesel Engine Systems & Maintenance
Learn to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel engines of all sizes. You’ll gain hands-on experience ensuring engines run efficiently and reliably.
Electrical & Diagnostics
Master the electrical systems that power modern diesel equipment. You’ll learn to use diagnostic tools to identify and solve complex electrical issues.
Fuel Systems & Emissions
Understand fuel delivery, combustion, and emissions systems critical to performance and compliance. You’ll practice maintaining systems to optimize efficiency and meet environmental standards.
Hydraulics & Brakes
Get hands-on experience with hydraulic circuits, braking systems, and related components. You’ll develop the skills to keep heavy equipment safe and fully operational.
Safety & Preventative Maintenance
